Day 11- Bled, Slovenia to Austria
16 September 2011
After our rather "active" evening, we enjoyed a nice long lay in while the sun opened up around us. When I poked my head outside of the tent I was sharing with Ally, the sun highlighted the rolling hills of trees as they were beginning to show falls colours in lovely oranges and yellows here and there. The lake looked even more spectacular under clear blue skies and we had a leisurely swim, lounging by the lake for much of the day.
We took our time packing up and heading out, with our Austria as our next country on the route. As we crossed the Austrian-Slovenian border, we hit a long roadblock as a cross-alpine tunnel was closed for 30minutes. I sat blogging away while we waited for the roads to open up. We set Salzburg as the destination of choice- to check out Hitler's "Eagle's Nest" and hoping for another outdoorsy, active area to visit. As we cruise along the Austrian motorway, the landscape evovled into rolling foothills of the Alps covered in deep green forests.
We arrived in Salzsburg once the sun was down and navigated through the challenging streets to find a supermarket that was open. Lidl saved the day (as it often has, thus far!) and we stocked up on dinner before checking in at Panorama Camping just outside of the city. The name rings true, and our tents sat overlooking the lights of the city with the foothills of the Alps as a backdrop. Unfortunately I don't have any photos....my camera has been in detox drying out in the back of the car.
We plan to spend the weekend here in Salzburg before catching an afternoon in Munich on Monday- it's Oktoberfest! We then fly from Munich to Larnaca, Cyprus on Monday evening for a week of beach, sun, home-cooked food...and knowing Costas, our Cypriot host... probably some hunting too.
